Hyderabad: Justice Madan Bhimrao Lokur has been appointed as the new chairman of the Telangana Electricity Commission. He served as Chief Justice of the High Court and later as a Judge of the Supreme Court. The Telangana government has appointed him as new chairman on the directions of the Supreme Court. Earlier, Justice Narasimha Reddy had acted as the commission's chairman.

The Revanth Reddy government had constituted a commission of inquiry to inquire into the decisions taken by the previous government in Telangana to set up Yadadri and Bhadradri sub-critical thermal power stations and to buy power from Chhattisgarh State. Chairman Justice L. Narasimha Reddy was appointed as the commission’s chairman. During the course of the investigation, former CM KCR had filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the constitution of the commission and the impartiality of its chairman. A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud took up the matter and ordered the State government to change the chairman of the commission Justice Narasimha Reddy.

At the same time, KCR's request to quash the notification for setting up the commission of inquiry was also not taken into consideration by the apex court. In the wake of these developments, Justice L. Narasimha Reddy had stepped down from the post of the chairman of the Commission. Narasimha Reddy submitted his resignation letter to the Supreme Court through a lawyer. The State government on Tuesday appointed Justice Madan B Lokur as the new chairman of the commission.
